If you are friends with someone who is divorced, you are 75% more likely to get divorced than someone who isn’t.
If you have a friend of a friend who gets divorced, you are 33% percent more likely to get divorced.
The researchers say this is because people follow their friends’ examples. If your friends get divorced, you are more likely to consider it yourself. You might think: “if they aren’t happy, then maybe I’m not really happy either.”
I say that just because your friends do something, that doesn’t mean that you have to. It’s like what I tell my kids: if your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?
